  • Struggle to read the messages on your smartphone?
  • Do images appear less vibrant than they used to?

Growing old is a privilege.

But when it comes to eye health, aging can bring on several ocular conditions and diseases like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.

Vision impairment decreases one's ability to perform activities of daily living and increases the risk for depression.

I called around trying to get an eye exam & places were booking out a month or 2 .. Village eye asso... ciates got me in for my appointment in just a few days. I was in & out in 40 minutes! The staff was great but Dr. Afshar was fantastic! He was very personable & was clear in explaining what I needed, what I didn’t need and why. I’m so happy I found this place & will be returning for all my families eye care 🙂

There is a calm and... relaxing office atmosphere that takes away any stress associated with eye examinations, testing, and related health discussion. Over many, many years, Dr. Bejian has shown to be consistent in her care and thorough eye health care approach, remaining current in the field and an active participant. I've been seeing Dr. Bejian since I was a child, and have never had any issues or complaints. The o... ffice is tidy and comfortable, and the wait is never more than a few minutes. The staff is kind, efficient, helpful, and prompt. Dr. Bejian is not only a highly intelligent, wonderful, & knowledgeable clinician, but also a lovely, warm, and caring person. She spends as much time with you as you need (no matter how many questions you have!), and is incredibly thorough in her exam and treatment. I have seen other doctors in her office as well, and I highly recommend her or any of them--they're all fantastic!

I've been going to Dr. Bejian for 20+ years and I can't imagine going anywhere else. She does an exc... ellent job; I know my eyes are in good hands. I recently had PRK Lasik eye surgery (at a place recommended by Dr. Bejian), and have been going to Dr. Bejian for all of the many follow-up visits. I'm pleased with that experience as well.

My experience with Dr. Bejian has been wonderful. She is a doctor who truly cares about each of her... patients and takes the time to talk with them and explain what is going on with their eye prescription and health - something you don't experience often these days in Dr.'s offices. She'll also make sure her patients know what's the latest in contact and eyeglass lenses. She is an experienced Optometrist, and I am confident in her skills. The staff in her office is also friendly, and very helpful when scheduling appointments. I highly recommend Village Eye.

Excellent all around - I have been seeing Dr. Bejian for 18 years and though I have complicated eye ... issues I have gotten comprehensive care with good coordination with specialists. Dr Bejian and her staff follow through on the smallest of details and I always feel very cared for and in the best of hands. All three of my kids are in contact lenses and she always knows the latest and most healthy options to offer them. And Stan and his optical shop are the best too!

Dr. Bejian is so thorough, knowledgeable and experienced. In addition, she is one of my favorite pe... ople, even though I only see her once a year for my checkups. Everyone in the office is friendly, and I love my new contacts and my new glasses. My family and I have been going to her for eye care since she first came to Chelmsford, about 1989 or so.

Senior Vision FAQs

Can presbyopia be corrected?

Presbyopia, age-related farsightedness, affects your eyes’ ability to focus on near objects. You may become aware of presbyopia once you begin holding books and newspapers at arm’s length to be able to read them. This condition is a natural part of the aging process and affects virtually all adults in their 40s. Our eye doctors will diagnose and help correct your presbyopia so you can see clearly again. They'll provide you with corrective glasses and/or contact lenses, such as monovision and multifcoals.

What are the most common vision problems in the elderly?

The most common causes of vision loss among the elderly are age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.

  • Age-related macular degeneration is characterized by the loss of central vision.
  • Glaucoma results in visual field loss.
  • Cataracts cause blurred vision and faded colors among the elderly.
  • Diabetic retinopathy is characterized by blurred vision and floaters, among other symptoms.
  • Other conditions include dry or watery eyes and floaters.

Because many of these conditions may initially be asymptomatic, it's critical that elderly patients undergo routine eye exams. The earlier these conditions are detected, the better the treatment outcome.

Can macular degeneration be prevented?

Although there’s no sure-fire method for preventing eye disease, certain lifestyle habits can put the odds in your favor. To help ensure healthy vision for a lifetime, wear high-quality sunglasses whenever outdoors, quit smoking if you do, eat eye-healthy foods, and ask your optometrist about taking AREDS supplements. Most importantly, regular visits with your eye doctor are crucial to keeping your vision sharp throughout your golden years.
